The Growlers concoct playful psych pop at Ogden Theatre

Friday night at the Ogden Theatre, The Growlers brought a little bit of the beach to a steamy summer night in landlocked Denver. Their bouncy Orange County “Beach Goth” sound, a perfect hybrid of surf rock, cowpunk, psych rock and reggae, coalesces around the distinctive vocals and lilting melodies of frontman Brooks Nielsen.

M83 awes Red Rocks with dance-forward set

M83’s synth-filled, vaguely nostalgic show was the stuff of dreams on a cloudy Tuesday evening at Red Rocks. The French group — fronted by Anthony Gonzalez — opened the night up with 2011 hit “Reunion.” The song was a strong first show of their dreamy sound, harking back to the '70s and '80s tunes that inspired Gonzalez as a child.
