Hot Shots: 5th annual Denver Hair Show

303 Magazine held its 5th Annual Hair Show at the EXDO Event Center this past weekend. Saturday night’s show promised to be wild and extravagant, with a lineup that included the stylings of Asteria Salon, Berenices, Floyd's 99 Barbershop, Juno Salon, The Parlour, Planet Laboratories, Salon Posh and Swank Salon.

When the jackets and scarves come out, it is pretty safe to say that the 2011 summer concert season is wrapping up. And on Wednesday at Comfort Dental Amphitheatre, Avenged Sevenfold literally closed the season with a bang to over 15,000 fans as the headliner for Rockstar Energy’s 2011 Uproar Festival (known locally as 106.7 KBPI’s Infest).

Saturday night in LoDo saw the standard mob of club-goers, and Maloney’s Tavern on Market St. was stuffed to capacity. Whatever the scene at Maloney’s is like during the day, on Saturday night the pool tables served as bar stools and coasters, and the aisles transformed into makeshift dance floors.

City Park regularly plays host to warm weather events, from evening live music to morning walk-a-thons. Perhaps the liveliest of them all was the 2011 New Belgium Tour de Fat stop on Saturday morning, which transformed the west end of the park into a most surreal day.

Festivities were in full swing Saturday night as Day 3 of the Underground Music Showcase kicked into overdrive. In addition to the outdoor stages from Friday night, there were even more venues for bands to showcase their work including a church, several unofficial parties in neighborhood backyards and even the sidewalks of South Broadway.

If the opening night of the Underground Music Showcase was any indication, this is going to be one hot weekend -- sweltering heat notwithstanding. The South Broadway stretch was alive with music at a multitude of venues, as well as the quirky characters parading up and down the urban street.
