Early on Thursday, Portland indie-pop band STRFKR set the precedent for a night of great cover songs at Red Rocks Amphitheatre with a take on Cyndi Lauper's classic, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." The smallish and tame crowd would be treated to takes on "Teenage Wasteland," "Another Brick in the Wall" and "Day Man" from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" from Grouplove and Portugal.

Who would win in a strum-off between the Avett Brothers versus Mumford and Sons? Who has better facial hair, Marcus Mumford or Seth Avett? I mean, these are the things that kept me up last night while the Avett Brothers made their triumphant return to "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" to perform a medley starting off with an amped up "Kick Drum Heart" and steamrolled right into "Geraldine." The guys definitely "pile-drived" the crowd into submission last night.

Live review: Portugal. The Man @ the Bluebird Theater

Portugal. The Man’s reputation as an excellent live act helped sell out the Hi-Dive last August. On Friday night they returned to Denver and sold out the Bluebird Theater, the first of three Colorado shows (Vail and Aspen were the others) before heading back to Portland, where the Wasila, Alaska-based band now lives.
