Steve Kimock at the Oriental Theater, 10/20/12 (review)

Armed with a massive wardrobe of guitars, noodle king Steve Kimock and his mighty band owned the Oriental Theater Saturday. From tropical, surfy jams to meandering jazz odysseys, Kimock and Parliament/Talking Heads keyman Bernie Worrell blasted through a diverse, 14-song night rife with plenty of Kimock’s trademark six-string voyaging.

Underground Music Showcase veterans Bowerbirds play delicate folk music that’s at once lush and stripped down to its most basic elements. Principal members Phil Moore and Beth Tacular routinely meet on lonesome harmonies that easily lead listeners to feelings of nostalgia, rather than sappiness, like most of their peers.

Setting aside the disturbing fact that for some reason it's relevant to discuss Christmas lights in mid-October, Rihanna was chosen over other candidates, including the Spice Girls, for the Nov.

Switchfoot at Summit Music Hall, 10/15/12 (photos)

From the start of the high-energy opener, "The Sound," Switchfoot's Monday evening show at Summit Music Hall was an audience sing-along type of night. As expected, "Dare You to Move" had people belting like it was a camp song, while "Stars," The War Inside" and "Hurricane" had both voices and hands raised high.

The Black keys to release new EP of rehearsal tapes

Going after the niche "I'd love to hear how this song sounded in rehearsal" market, the Black Keys have released a six song EP recorded live during past studio sessioins "Tour Rehearsal Tapes" includes songs that originally appeared on the group's 2011 album "El Camino," as well as two from the 2010 album "Brothers." As of Tuesday, the EP is only available on iTunes for the first two weeks.
