Furthur at Red Rocks Amphitheatre day two, 9-20-13 (review)

Under a beautiful harvest moon Friday night at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Furthur continued its four-night sold out run at the venue. The nostalgic jam band contrived by Phil Lesh and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead was greeted by a friendly Colorado crowd of tie-dyed baby boomers eager to channel their youth.

By Jonathan Gang Grateful Dead alumni Phil Lesh and Bob Weir’s Furthur brought their four-show Colorado run to a solid yet often underwhelming conclusion Sunday. Furthur was coming off a strong run of shows, including a Saturday concert that absolutely blew the roof off the Broomfield’s 1stBank Center.

One thing you can say about the musicians in Furthur: They still take some chances in their live shows. It doesn't always work, but at least it's not always the same old, even if guitarist John Kadlecik is, for the most part, hitting the Jerry Garcia guitar tone in his best tribute style and the band is getting closer to original Grateful Dead than any of the many offshoots have since Garcia's death.
