The Soul Rebels at the Other Side, 9/7/12 (photos)

If it was a battle of the bands Friday night at the Other Side, New Orleans cleaned Denver’s clock. Not that Colorado’s own Digg and Frogs Gone Fishin’ were slacking in the funk delivery, but New Orleans’ the Revivalists and Soul Rebels raised the roof in the packed-solid venue, with massive brass and blasting riffs.

Album reviews: Galactic, Grimes, Tyga

Galactic, "Carnivale Electricos" (Anti-) Every New Orleans band has to reckon with Mardi Gras, which takes place Tuesday. Galactic, formed in New Orleans in 1994, takes a wide-angle view on "Carnivale Electricos," writing and transforming Carnival songs not only from New Orleans and Cajun country, but also from another Carnival epicenter: Brazil.
