UMS 2012: Photos and review of Saturday night

The 12th annual Denver Post Underground Music Showcase charged forward Saturday through nearly 100-degree heat with large crowds clogging the South Broadway corridor. More venues opened their doors to the 300 or so artists while tangent events and unofficial neighborhood house parties filled the Baker neighborhood with buzz.

The Ogden Theatre hosted the biggest names in Colorado music and entertainment on Thursday for the Denver Acoustic Christmas. The man responsible for bringing together members of OneRepublic, the Fray, Dispatch, Bop Skizzum, Flobots, DeVotchKa and Matt Morris was Ryan Tedder, the Grammy-nominated producer and OneRepublic frontman -- who can successfully add philanthropist and concert producer to his resume.

The Mile High Makeout: Local musicians join Occupy Denver this Saturday

The global Occupy movement is an international demonstration of solidarity unlike any most of us have seen in our lifetimes. Even if you're not one of the hundreds of thousands occupying Wall Street, Wichita or Denver, all you have to do is turn on your radio, TV or computer to be brought face-to-face with the diverse group of disenfranchised citizens around the world demanding fundamental changes to the inequities that characterize the modern global economy.

Live review: Flobots, Teddy Thompson @ the Boulder Theater (eTown)

Last night's eTown taping brought together Denver-born Flobots and singer-songwriter Teddy Thompson at the Boulder Theater. Flobots opened the evening strong with tracks off of their 2010 album “Survival Story.” Compared to my last experience seeing them play on the University of Colorado campus for a college-aged crowd, it was nice to see gray haired men enjoying the music as much as the 20-somethings.
