Twin Shadow casts a dark, carnal persona on “Confess” (interview)

George Lewis, Jr. is a bracing new voice in pop music — and one that sounds surprisingly familiar. Better known as the ’80s-indebted dance-pop crooner Twin Shadow, 29-year-old Lewis strikes a singular figure on stage and in the press with his confident, world-weary persona and razor-sharp style, which draws from ’50s motorcycle gangs as much as hipster fashion plates in Brooklyn and London.

Brooklyn's four-day Northside Festival kicked off its third year with hundreds of rising indie bands last weekend in the Williamsburg neighborhood of the borough. Indie-rock mainstays Guided By Voices and Beirut anchored the festival alongside newer acts like Surfer Blood, Sharon Van Etten, Wavves, Deer Tick (as Deervana), Titus Andronicus, Twin Sister and Javelin.
