Goldrush music festival’s goal is to challenge musical tastes. It’s uncertain whether the crowds on Saturday and Sunday were challenged, as they mostly swayed, nodded or wildly arm-danced along with the 27 experimental artists that played the Larimer Lounge and Meadowlark.

Telluride Blues and Brews is a musical stew. While the sounds that shook the stony walls of the dead-end canyon last weekend were decidedly varied, all revolved around a pervasive groove. The Violent Femmes and Parliament Funkadelic may seem odd partners on a bill. Stir aging rocker Peter Frampton, a host of bayou funk masters, blues legends and a swelling contingent of eager up-and-coming rockers into the mix and the weekend festival ascended into a beery cradle of groove.
