Drake and the Toronto Raptors fined $25,000By Ru Johnson | August 11th, 2014 | No Comments »
Drake has angered the suits over at NBA headquarters with comments he made at the 5th Annual OVO Fest in his hometown of Toronto recently. Drizzy violated the league’s anti-tampering rules when he made a “public pitch,” for Kevin Durant to make a move to the Raptors, according to ESPN. The Oklahoma City Thunder star is set to be a free agent in 2016 and, as a Global Ambassador to the Raptors, Drake’s comments border on coercion.
During the performance of “0-100”, Drake essentially asked the audience to show KD the kind of welcome he’d receive were he to choose the Raptors as his next team. Unsurprisingly, the crowd roared with approval, even breaking into chants of “KD.” The NBA considers that sort of public ask to be tampering and slapped Drake with a $25,000 fine.
Drake and Lil Wayne have been making headlines with the release of their latest track “Grinding.” The two have paired up for a Drake vs. Lil Wayne tour that stops through Colorado at Red Rocks on Sept. 10. The Young Money Records gurus even launched an app to track the progress of fandom while on tour.
