Beck fans have learned not to expect uplifting love songs from his latest releases, and the new video for Beck’s “Heart Is A Drum” is true to form. In fact, it will depress the hell out of you. Thanks, Beck.
The video is a strange combination of a “Yentl”-dressed Beck roaming around an old creepy farm house observing astronauts, a “Loser” dressed Beck look-alike, a couple that seem to be in a dreamy sort of trance, and somewhere in-between the lines, there’s the vague sense of a love story.
Now’s the time to start preparing yourself emotionally, because Beck has added a Red Rocks show to his 2014 tour. He’ll play the mountain venue on Aug. 15 — his first Colorado show in more than a decade.
On Monday’s “Colbert Report,” Stephen Colbert joked that the new album could be filed under the “Neo-Low-fi-Rave-Funk” section. Beck, on the other hand, described his new album “Morning Phase” as “good for massages.” And hey, if you get nothing else out of this sorrowful album, a massage isn’t half bad, right?
Grab the oil, kids.
