MTV VMAs 2014: Beyonce leads nominations with eight

MTV has released the VMAs 2014 nominations and, as usual, there are few surprises to be found on the list. But to shake things up a bit this year, MTV shared the news through eight 10 second Snapchat videos.

As MTV’s VP of Content Marketing and Fan Engagement Tom Fishman told Mashable, “We could have used one person to announce all of them but this is really going to buy us a lot of reach.” Fishman predicted that the cameos will “excite great pockets of fandoms.”

Clearly most of those “pockets” belong to Beyonce, because she leads the pack with eight nominations; these include Best Female Video (“Partition”), Best Video With a Social Message (“Pretty Hurts”), and Video of the Year (“Drunk In Love”). Unfortunately, sister Solange’s elevator fight featuring Queen Bey and hubby Jay-Z was snubbed in the list.

Iggy Azalea and Eminem are next in line for most nominations with seven each. Depending on how the victories play out this year, Beyoncé is getting close (currently with a dozen wins) to Material Girl Madonna who holds the record for VMA wins with 20.

Other multiple noms include: Pharrell Williams, Lorde, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Zedd, Katy Perry, Jay Z, and Miley Cyrus.

Fans can vote for their favorites beginning today at MTV.Com. Winners will be announced during MTV’s live telecast from LA.’s The Forum on Sunday Aug. 24 at 9 p.m.

Here’s the complete list of nominations along with some sweet, sweet videos. Check them out; it’s a mid-summer Thursday, so you aren’t really working anyway.
