Watch Spoon on Jimmy Kimmel — performing “Rent I Pay” and “Rainy Taxi”

Dressed in all black, Spoon‘s Britt Daniels channelled Johnny Cash on Thursday night — in fashion sense, that is — as the band performed two tracks off its new album on Jimmy Kimmel.

Maybe Daniels’ other project, Divine Fits, has given him some inspiration, taking new Spoon material to assertive grounds. Not nearly as melodic as “Transference,” material off the upcoming “They Want My Soul” is commanding, and Daniels appears more animated while performing it live. On Thursday, the band took late night viewers through the first single off the new album, “Rent I Pay,” and “Rainy Taxi.” Spoon plays Telluride’s Ride Festival on July 12 — it’s only Colorado date planned for this year.

Watch the band play “Rent I Pay” above and “Rainy Taxi” below.
