Bonnaroo let Kanye West return and this is what happenedBy Ru Johnson | June 16th, 2014 | 1 Comment »
Kanye West and Bonnaroo are the epitome of frenemies. Back in 2008, West MC took to the stage at 4:30 a.m., well after his scheduled time, and set off a rant for the ages. Calling the festival organizers too inept to properly run a show, West’s 2008 set was abrupt and underwhelming.
But, despite the love/hate relationship, the two somehow hopped back in the saddle for a headlining performance at Bonnaroo 2014. For one of his only scheduled performances of the year, many wondered if Kanye would let bygones be bygones for his headlining set on Friday.
West took to the stage at Bonnaroo (on time) by bringing up complaints at his 2008 appearance about there being “fuck Kanye” printed on the port-o-potties used at the festival and his always heightened beef with the press, according to Billboard. West also reportedly went on an expletive-filled rant that targeted everyone from Walt Disney to Shakespeare.
Throughout the weekend, festivalgoers sported shirts saying “F**k Kanye” or “Forgive Kanye.” And it all came to a tipping point throughout the performance, when the audience booed West during his outburst, followed by “what looked like a mass exodus,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
The Guardian is reporting that Kanye also omitted any mention of Jay-Z from their dual songs, fueling the fires that Yeezy isn’t letting go Jay’s absence from his wedding to Kim Kardashian.
Last year, West canceled his show at Denver’s Pepsi Center, following problems with his tour. Ahead of the show, ticket sales were also slow.
