Rock Comic Con returns during Denver Comic Con weekend with Magic Cyclops, H2Awesome!, Total GhostBy John Wenzel | May 14th, 2014 | 1 Comment »
Rock Comic Con, the traveling nerd-rock music festival, announced its 2014 Denver lineup today with punks H2Awesome!, mock-German synth band Total Ghost, “Game of Thrones” punk act Daenerys and the Targaryens, 3D6, and the Mile High City’s “American Idol” prankster Magic Cyclops.
The nonprofit event, which will run parallel to the third annual Denver Comic Con at the Colorado Convention Center, takes place June 13-14 at the Armoury (2048 Larimer St.) and also features professional cartoonists and indie publishers painting live throughout the night.
This year’s Rock Comic Con will benefit Kirby4Heroes, the Hero Initiative and a new local scholarship fund developed by Rock Comic Con “to celebrate the behind-the-scenes efforts of Frank Romero and Charlie La Greca for their work establishing the Comic Book Classroom and Denver Comic Con in Denver.” Details on the scholarship fund are forthcoming.
La Greca and Romero, who co-founded the Denver Comic Con and its parent nonprofit Comic Book Classroom, recently split with the organization amid La Greca’s claims that the Comic Con and Comic Book Classroom had abandoned its nonprofit mission and mismanaged its funds.
Mediation between La Greca and the CBC/DCC concluded last week with no details from either side on a settlement, although La Greca told The Denver Post’s nerd blog Shiny Objects that he was “looking forward to seeing everyone at the Con!”
More Denver Rock Comic Con acts, including a likely nerdcore headliner, will be announced in the coming days, so check back here for updates.
Single day passes for the event are $15 each and two-night passes at $25, available via Brown Paper Tickets.
