Watch Arctic Monkeys cover Tame Impala’s “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards”

We’ve always been fools for Arctic Monkeys cover songs. They’ve hit all the genres, nailing takes on Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever,” Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand” and others. Now, they’ve covered Tame Impala’s “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” for radio program “Like A Version.”

Arctic Monkeys give a simple and elegant take on the psych rock song. Just Alex Turner and an acoustic guitar turn this twisting, synth thumper into a thoughtful ballad.

In September the band put its spin on Drake’s “Hold on We’re Going Home.”

But while Arctic Monkeys has a proclivity for unexpected cover songs, other bands are keen on covering Arctic Monkeys. Earlier this year CHVRCHES performed a wonderful version of “Do I Wanna Know?” for “Like A Version.” Maybe next we’ll hear how Arctic Monkeys handle the bright synth pop of CHVRCHES? Weirder things have certainly happened.

Arctic Monkeys makes its Red Rocks headlining debut on Sept. 4.

They covered Shirley Bassey’s Diamonds are Forever, not Kanye West’s.
