Watch: Broken Bells debuts “The Changing Lights” with a Take Away ShowBy James Garcia | January 16th, 2014 | 2 comments
Broken Bells‘ new album, “After the Disco,” is slated to be released Feb. 4, and after sharing the title track and “Holding on For Life,” the duo has debuted “The Changing Lights” through a La Blogotheque Take Away Show. The artsy video shows the superduo of James Mercer (The Shins) and Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley) performing a stripped-down version of the new track.
Mercer’s distinct vocals — notably his falsetto — are highlighted in Broken Bells tracks through the expert production of Danger Mouse. The combination of the two styles is stunning and unique when placed on top of funky bass tracks, hip synths and swooning acoustic guitars.
“He just came down to my studio in L.A. one day… we never worked together, we just walked in and on the first we just kinda did a song and it sounded cool,” said Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, in an interview with RockFeedBack. “The way we worked together was easy. And it was something different sounding than I had ever done.”
