Looking like seasoned veterans who don’t let the highs get too high and the lows too low, Kings of Leon made an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend. The Followill gang took their Bruno Mars inspired song, “Temple,” to the big stage. The track simmered to a slow boil with drummer Nathan Followill providing the missing piece with his very appropriate harmonies on point at the perfect times. But, what was up with the homage to the Oklahoma Sooners on the drum kit and Nathan’s shirt? Last time I checked, they’re only scheduled to play for ribbons and orange slices versus Alabama in what isn’t the National Championship.
The businesslike approach to the “SNL” visit culminated in a softer tune selection with “Wait for Me.” The track choice is very appropriate with the growing pains the guys have experienced, dealing with the tantrums and drinking problems from lead vocalist, Caleb Followill. Kings of Leon is scheduled to do a proper U.S. arena tour that starts in early February with some open dates that looks like a big possibility for a Denver return.
