4) J. Cole — 1stBank Center, Oct. 22
With albums from Kanye West, Jay-Z, Eminem and more out in 2013, this year may be remembered as one of hip-hop’s biggest. But even with this many major releases, “Born Sinner,” the excellent sophomore album from J. Cole, isn’t getting overshadowed. In fact, the album managed to outsell West’s “Yeezus” in its first week. The reason being is J. Cole has a love of hip-hop that seems to border on obsession, and it can pay homage and expand upon any number of artists in a single song. As we’ve seen in his TV spots promoting the new album, he already has a solid hold on performing this material live, which he’ll bring to the 1stBank Center on Oct. 22.
