Watch: Kendrick Lamar disses Drake on BET Hip-Hop Awards cypherBy Ru Johnson | October 16th, 2013 | 1 Comment »
At this point every time Kendrick Lamar opens his mouth we should expect venom to spew forth. The MC put all of hip-hop on notice with his scathing verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” and Tuesday’s airing of the BET Hip-Hop Awards proves he’s not finished yet.
Word spread earlier in the month that Kendrick had a few choice words for “Nothing Was the Same” star Drake in his BET cypher and the entire verse was revealed during the awards on Tuesday. Namely the Compton MC calls Drake sensitive, but goes on to imply that he and his T.D.E. crew will have the last laugh as the true taste makers of hip-hop. His rhymes are poignant and hard as pavement over Mobb Deep’s classic rap track “Shook Ones Part II.”
Kendrick Lamar has been riding high off the success of his album “g.o.o.d kid m.a.a.d. city” and a bevy of guest verses that have set the young MC far out ahead of the competition. All eyes are on hip-hop to determine who, if anyone, dares respond to Lamar’s wide assertions that he’s not only the best, but destined to be in the top position.
