Katy Perry continues to gain momentum for her upcoming album “Prism” as two powerful pop songs, “Unconditionally” and “Birthday,” were leaked onto the web Tuesday morning. The album is set to drop on Oct. 22 with three songs already in the public eye and her first single “Roar” still holding a top spot on the Hot 100.
“Unconditionally” stays true to Perry’s emotional but not overly-sappy lyrics and melody with lines like “I’ll walk through this storm, I would/All because I love you”. Considering the alleged relationship between Perry and heartthrob John Mayer, one can’t help but to attribute the love-induced lyrics and hollow power ballads of “Unconditionally” to their fling.
“Birthday” is a Madonna-esque disco tune with either a really ecstatic message about her/someone else’s upcoming birthday (it’s a reach, we know) or an overtly sexual message. The track features whispery lyrics like “let me get you in your birthday suit” and heavy hitting synths. You can listen to “Birthday” here.
Perry also premiered another song “Walking on Air” from “Prism” on SNL last weekend, where she stunned a potentially sleepy audience with a spectacular dance-infused performance.
