Austin City Limits 2013: 10 underdogs you shouldn’t miss

Luckily, Austin City Limits 2013 decided to go the way of Coachella and double down on its festivities, expanding to two weekends. The lineup is huge, like always, but with twice the amount of time — assuming you bought tickets for both weekends, like a normal person — you might have a shot at seeing all 130+ artists. In case you don’t, we picked out 10 lesser-known artists that you shouldn’t miss out on when you’re not scoping Atoms For Peace, Haim or Shuggie Otis.

Check out our 10 favorite underdogs of ACL 2013 below.

Listen to a Spotify playlist of the artists, including one extra track from each (minus Shakey Graves) here.

10) Parquet Courts

Sounds like… punk-rock Buddy Holly

There’s nothing too hardcore or too sweet about the Parquet Courts. They give you punk energy with coherent (and catchy) lyrics; a post-punk starter kit. Like Buddy Holly in Vietnam, these guys balance doo-wop on the edge of a combat knife.

“You’ve Got Me Wonderin’ Now”

Wow, pretty lousy taste in music. JC Brooks is good. Lone Bellow is overly earnest but very good. The rest are pretty bad, Shakey Graves in particular is just a bad joke.
