Steal This Track from “This Ain’t No Cowtown Vol. 5″By Josh Johnson | August 5th, 2013 | 1 Comment »
Denver record label ZetaKaye House is releasing “This Ain’t No Cowtown,” a massive collection of Colorado music, comedy and poetry that spans three editions, all to benefit a local musician recovering from cancer. We’ve got an alt-country track from Andy Hamilton and the Whiskey Hitchers and a comedy bit from Nathan Lund for you to steal.
Denver has fought long and hard to shake the image of a cow town. And while it’s true that we are now a city on par with either of the coasts, some out-of-towners still expect to see horses tied to posts outside saloons with swinging doors. For five volumes now, the Denver label ZetaKaye House proven this notion wrong by releasing compilations of Colorado music showing we are much more of a music city than a cow town.
The fifth volume in this series will be released on August 6, and it’s a massive collection of music, comedy and poetry. Seriously, there’s nearly 50 tracks with a staggering variety. It’s easily the best Intro to Colorado Music class available. And there’s a good reason why so many artists jumped on board.
This edition also showcases how the Colorado music and comedy scenes are filled with artists supporting each other. If we are a cowtown, we’re one filled with compassion over competition. All proceeds from he this comp will benefit Mike Marchant, a Denver songwriter buried under medical debt after a battle with cancer.
Below, we’ve dropped two tracks. Download an exclusive first listen to Andy Hamilton and the Whiskey Hitchers, the latest project from the mastermind of Houses. And there’s also a track from comedian Nathan Lund of The Fine Gentleman’s Club about living in the suburbs, a fate far worse than living in a cow town.
Please note that downloads offered via Steal This Track are intended to whet your appetite, and are NOT CD-quality recordings. If you want those, please support the artists by buying their music and/or seeing them live.
If you’re a band or musician ready to expose your fresh sounds to the readers of Reverb, email your tracks — along with any interesting facts about them, as well as a photo or album art — to Steal This Track for consideration.
