Unofficial showcases legitimize a festival. Take a look at SXSW. Would it be the same event without the hundreds and hundreds of unofficial showcases and parties? Bands and fans want to be a part of something so badly that in order to participate they create a grassroots movement to be involved in a scene.
And in the same spirit, year after year, the Denver music scene puts together a number of unofficial day parties to add to The Underground Music Showcase, the biggest Denver music festival.
This year, the unofficial day parties bring the first Denver performance by Tennis since the band moved to Nashville at the end of 2012, a show from Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Bad Weather California, Bear Antler and more.
Keep in mind, the real party is at the official UMS with more than 400 bands at 20-plus venues. Passes are still on sale at the UMS Box Office (Broadway and Archer Streets).
