Complete with a full backing band, singers and Talib Kweli, Denver’s Pretty Lights brought an electro-soul aesthetic to Conan on Wednesday. With a deep live setup, his performance of “Around the Block,” continues to show Derek Vincent Smith’s growth as a musician, in that he’s not relying solely on samples to bring the party.
The best part of the performance, though, is that Kweli looked pretty good in his fitted red Denver Nuggets cap. For those of you wanting to catch Pretty Lights next month at the majestic Red Rocks, you’re out of luck. The Fort Collins native has sold out both shows Aug. 16-17.
