Churchill breaks up, cancels upcoming arena tours, Leno appearance

Churchill, the band that appeared to be the next big act out of Denver, has broken up, canceling two upcoming arena tours and a scheduled appearance on Jay Leno, according to a band representative.

Having signed with the major label A&M/Octone last fall, Churchill returned late last month from a European arena tour with Pink. While rumors have spread about why the band called it quits upon its return from the tour, inner turmoil within Churchill appears to be the reason.

Early last month, the band announced that it would be joining Pink again on her upcoming U.S. arena tour and opening for OneRepublic on a summer tour that includes a Red Rocks show with Sara Bareilles. All upcoming Churchill shows have been canceled, according to the band representative.

The band could not be reached for comment when contacted.

Must be some bad blood for them to breakup on the verge of a wonderful opportunity.

  • GreenCouch

I heard that the guy singer and the girl singer were having a affair and their spouses found out.

    • Ed Haas

      Shocking.

  • Johnny

    Dumbfucks.

  • Michael

Has this been confirmed by anyone else? No other news outlet has mentioned this at all…

    • Liz

      It’s confirmed. I’m a personal friend.

      • Fritz Olsen

Liz, is it really true? Because I can’t believe it. So far there are no sources except a “band representative” (as quoted by reverb). Who is this “band representative” and why won’t they give their name? If you are truly a personal friend please tell us your name so we know if this is true or not. I love Churchill! Please don’t break-up!

        • T

They did have an affair. The break up is the best thing for them. Bethany’s husband Dwight and Tim grew up in the same Youth Group and were best friends. Both of the couples need to have time to heal and need their space. To me the most important thing now is to keep their families intact.

  • Sadamae

Honestly I went to school with Bethany most of my life and live a few houses away from her family and I don’t believe for a second that anything happened between her and any of the bandmates….. so ya I would wait and see what they say.

    • geofff

Definitely broken up. I know them all personally. Sad day.

      • Z

        why did they break up?

Bummer, they were a great band.

    • sentry

All the drama should make them better. Like Fleetwood Mac. And if the rumors are true, wouldn’t it really be family turmoil, not band turmoil, that broke the band up.

      • Violet

        What are the rumors??

  • WillDewBadley

I guess somebody wanted them to Change, and they wouldn’t.

  • Fritz Olsen

Matt Miller @ Reverb: Who is the “band representative” you used as your source? No name was mentioned. Credible source? The only people posting comments on here are anonymous people that can write anything they dream up. We should wait to hear from Churchill themselves instead of believing anonymous internet gossip posted by people claiming to be personal friends with the band. A TRUE personal friend would give their REAL name, but… if they were a “true friend” they wouldn’t post on behalf of the band. Maybe they just need some time and privacy…??

    • matt

Tyler has been responding to some fans through their twitter.

      • Fritz Olsen

        Thanks Matt.

Canceling shows, especially of this caliber… if they ever get back together, it’s going to be much harder to ever get these opportunities again.

    • Taylor$

They are never, ever, ever, ever…. getting back together.

  • Topher

It’s definitely confirmed. I attended the One Republic concert in St Louis last night and Ryan Tedder announced that they broke up.

  • Matthew Wilson

Any further updates from anyone on why the band broke up?
I am not into the gossip crap, I just want to make sure it is was not for anything serious…like bad health or something tragic.
Still really sad to hear about the break up, though. Been a fan for over 3-4 years.

  • Jim

They must really want day jobs because none of them will have this kind of opportunity in the future. This type of caprice leads to becoming an emt in New York City. Ask David Lee Roth.
