The new MGMT album finally has a release date

After quietly releasing the new track “Alien Days” on Record Store Day and announcing a huge North American and European tour, the new MGMT album finally has a release date. The psych-pop duo announced on their website today that the self-titled album is due out on Sept. 17.

The announcement on the MGMT website also introduces something called “the Optimizer,” which ”provides listeners of the album with a simultaneously aural & optical listening experience featuring video & CGI.” This will be part of the enhanced album experience, according to the website.

“Alien Days,” the record day single released in April will be the opening track to the new MGMT album.

MGMT plays the Fillmore Auditorium on Sept. 6, shortly before the album is released.
