Kanrocksas 2013 canceled due to insufficient ticket sales

A handful of Denver bands now have to nix plans to drive to the Kansas Speedway for the Kanrocksas 2013 Music Festival. Due to insufficient ticket sales the festival scheduled for June 28 and 29 has been canceled with no plans to reschedule the event, according to its website.

Denver locals, Churchill, Pretty Lights and Air Dubai would have joined a number of national acts including fun.Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Kendrick Lamar. The festival took a year hiatus in 2012 as the speedway underwent construction, and now it seems unlikely to return in 2014. Other lineup highlights included  Grimes, Passion Pit and the Avett Brothers.

A number of people have shared their own gripes with the festival on its Facebook page. Some complained about Kanrocksas’ high ticket prices and others aren’t sure what to do about already purchased plane tickets.

According to the website: “The Kanrocksas authorized ticketing agent, ground(ctrl), will process all ticket refunds including service fees electronically. Customers will receive an email Tuesday, May 28th informing them of the cancellation and when they can expect their refund.”

The Kansas Speedway is a failure and a taxpayer funded boondoggle. Hopefully Colorado folks will remember this the next time some huckster starts pushing to build a billion dollar race track near Denver with huge taxpayer subsidies.

I am happy to see that maybe fans are starting to rebel against the outrageous prices of tickets to concerts and festivals in this country. You can attend a three day festival in Europe and pay under $100 per ticket. Beer is under $5 and camping usually runs $25 for a pass.

I would not bet money that John. PT Barnum was right, there’s a sucker born every minute.

Kansas Speedway is a failure? Think before you type. Kansas Speedway is far from being a failure. The festival is a failure cause of the crappy lineup and poor planning. Kansas Speedway and Sporting KC park are pumping in revenue to KCK, let alone all the other attractions in that area.
