Listen to the new Churchill song, “The War Within”By Matt Miller | April 17th, 2013 | No Comments »
It’s still a bit early to see what kind of impact the succes of the Lumineers will have on young Denver musicians, but the new Churchill song, “The War Within,” takes a few cues from their hometown forebears. Heavy on the “Ho Hey” singalong style of songwriting, “The War Within” is carried by a gang chorus of “whoas.”
Tim Bruns handles a majority of the vocals, but singing right along with him (though much lower in the mix) is Bethany Kelly, who took lead on the chorus of the radio hit “Change.” It will be interesting to see how this frontman/woman dynamic plays out on more upcoming releases, as most fans familiar with “Change” will consider Kelly the frontwoman of the band.
This single will appear on the upcoming “The War Within” EP, out on April 23 on A&M/Octone. After talking to Churchill earlier this year, we had anticipated the band’s full-length debut on the label to be released in spring or early summer.
