Best Denver shows this week: Nick Cave, Low, Sky Ferreira and moreBy Matt Miller | March 29th, 2013 | No Comments »
Wednesday is a pretty stacked day in Denver this week. Three of our best Denver shows are on hump day, so choose wisely. Or be a live music baller and bounce from show to show that night. April is shaping up to be a great month for music here in Colorado, so let’s kick it off right this week with the best Denver shows from March 29 to April 5, including Nick Cave, Low and more.
4) Cold War Kids — Gothic Theatre, Wednesday
Let’s get this out of the way first: From certain angles Cold War Kids singer Nathan Willett looks very similar to Quentin Tarantino. Don’t believe us? Please go to the band’s show at the Gothic Theatre on Wednesday and try to prove us wrong. Anyways, there was a moment in the mid 2000s when Cold War Kids seemed to have it: a couple catchy songs, a hip band name that has nearly nothing to do with political and military tensions and a sound that was just about fresh. The problem for the band came about when it tried to make music to fill arenas and the fans didn’t come along. That’s not to say there’s anything inherently bad about Cold War Kids music — Willett still knows his way around a hook — the band has just lost a bit of its soul.
