After closing out last week’s SXSW 2013, Vampire Weekend has shared some of the new material from the upcoming “Vampres of the City.” Listen to the new Vampire Weekend songs “Diane Young” and “Step below.

The first, “Diane Young,” is a lightning blast of retro rock, with singer Ezra Koenig belting “Baby baby right on time.” It sounds like something that will likely be used in a car commercial soon enough.

Then there’s “Step,” which is a much more mellow return to the band’s previous indie-pop material. This song shows off Vampire Weekend’s lyrics, with lines like “Your girl was in Berkley with her communist reader.”

The album is out on May 7 and Vampire Weekend comes to Colorado this summer to play Red Rocks on May 20.
