The first, “Diane Young,” is a lightning blast of retro rock, with singer Ezra Koenig belting “Baby baby right on time.” It sounds like something that will likely be used in a car commercial soon enough.
Then there’s “Step,” which is a much more mellow return to the band’s previous indie-pop material. This song shows off Vampire Weekend’s lyrics, with lines like “Your girl was in Berkley with her communist reader.”
