SXSW 2013: The best non-RSVP parties (Foxygen, Smashing Pumpkins, Macklemore, Rhye and more)

Ah, South by Southwest. Where else are there major media outlets and international corporations begging for your attention and attendance via free booze, free music, free good times and even free Texas barbecue?

SXSW 2013 truly gets started today, and in case you’ve forgotten to RSVP for the 5,000 (approx.) day parties and unofficial showcases, here’s a list of some great showcases that don’t require an RSVP. (Or if they do, they’re still accepting RSVPs.) We’ll even organize it day by day for you:

WEDNESDAY

Pitchfork Presents: Show No Mercy. At the Mohawk, free and open to the public, 12-6 p.m. Wednesday.

Featuring Trash Talk, Royal Thunder and Pinkish Black. If you questioned what kind of party this is, other bands on the bill include: Pallbearer, Mutilation Rites, Wet Lungs and Skeleton Witch. Yep, let’s get down.

THURSDAY

The Pitchfork Day Party: At the 1100 Warehouse, free and open to the public, 12-6 p.m. Thursday.

Featuring Youth Lagoon, Foxygen, Toro y Moi, Parquet Courts, Rhye and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. It’s OK, you can call it “indie as fuck” without sounding pretentious.

FRIDAY

Red Bull Sound Select Presents: 120 Hours in Austin: At various locations including Gatsby’s, 708 6th St., free and open to the public. (It wouldn’t hurt to register via redbullsoundselect.com.) 4-9 p.m. Today-Saturday.

Featuring the Smashing Pumpkins, Master P, John McCauley of Deer Tick, Girl in a Coma, the Sword. Holy caffeinated, Austin.

SATURDAY

Perez Hilton’s One Night in Austin: At the Austin Music Hall, 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday. Free to SXSW badge holders, 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday.

Featuring Stooshe, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and perhaps a very popular pop-punk band that recently reunited. Dance dance, indeed.

Then of course on Saturday is Reverb’s day party with the Hush Sound, High Highs, UME, Slow Magic, Man Without Country and more the Dirty Dog Bar. You can still RSVP for the SXSW 2013 Reverb party here.
