Not familiar with Kitty Crimes? That will change after watching the Denver rapper’s fantastic new video for her catchy single “Find A Penny.”

“You think this is about fame?” Laura Goldhamer asks Kitty Crimes, priming her for the boxing ring. “Fame is when you make a name for yourself by eating only thumbtacks and pooping out — nothing — but rose petals.”

Once the inspirational strings have faded, Kitty lets loose her verbal flurry, boasting “my beats are shamanistic” and of “taking it back to Westlake” before dissing Kreayshawn. The video is generating social media buzz since its release earlier this week. It’s a promising reintroduction to the MC, real name Maria Kohler, who has been active in Denver music’s scene under different reincarnations for some time now.

Kohler also fronts rock outfit M and The Gems and founded Harpoontang, an all-femme punk band, with some of the women from Paper Bird, to name a few of her projects. For the time being, it seems her focus is all about Kitty, who’ll be performing at Bar Standard during Westword’s Artopia this Saturday.
