The Grammys are always a year behind the curve.
The reality is that the awards presented in a current year are penance by the Grammy judges not acknowledging the previous artistic merit from an unknown yet highly respected artist in the musical community. A perfect example is Bon Iver‘s “For Emma, Forever Ago” and “Bon Iver.” Most fans would recognize the first album as being a work of brilliance. However, due to the fickle nature of Grammy judges, Just Vernon’s less deserving second release garnered the 2012 Best New Artist Award from the Grammys.
So, with this fickle award show coming up, we chose our favorite live performances by the Grammys 2013 nominees. Watch them all below.
5) The Black Keys + Johnny Depp – Lonely Boy (live at the MTV 2012 Movie Awards)
The Black Keys are one of those acts that have been on the touring circuit for more than 10 years. The Akron duo have run the gamut of putting out seven albums that have seen minor changes from their raw days of “Thickfreakness.” Who knew that after all of these years, the guys would be rubbing elbows with the likes of Johnny Depp and the Rza.
