Flaming Lips to sell love-themed album in life-size chocolate heartBy Kelsey Fowler | February 6th, 2013 | No Comments »
In a deft marketing move just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Flaming Lips are releasing an album of love-themed songs in chocolate. As in, actually encased in a life-size, anatomically correct chocolate heart. Tracks include “Love is Mind Control,” “When You Smile” and “Just Above Love.”
Biting through to the center using your own lips will reveal the USB flash drive containing the band’s music. The description says the heart is made with, “American dark chocolate studded with hazelnut mini whoppers and waffle cone crunch. Each box includes signatures from Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips.” The box included some (hopefully fake) blood splatters for extra drama. Delicious and dangerous!
Paste Magazine reports the Lips teamed with the company Dude, Sweet Chocolate to produce the heart, which appears to be, sadly, currently sold out. But worry not! Fans can still pre-order their newest album, “The Terror” (how fitting) which drops April 2.
For Halloween in 2011 the band released a similar USB album incased in a gummy skull.
