Soundgarden unveiled the video for “By Crooked Steps” today, a much-anticipated video collaboration between the Seattle rock band and the Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl. Grohl was called upon to direct the video for his friends in Soundgarden, bringing some creative humor to the project. You can watch the new Soundgarden and Dave Grohl video below.
According to a post on the Soundgarden Facebook page, “The idea for Dave to direct this video came from… Dave,” says vocalist Chris Cornell. “Dave had the idea perfectly set up, start to finish, it’s right on,” adds bassist Ben Shepherd.
“By Crooked Steps” portrays Soundgarden as a Sons of Anarchy-esque biker gang with a twist of humor courtesy of Grohl, who switched out the ultra-tough motorcycles for Segways. At one point in the video, the Soundgarden “gang members” even take their Segways to a nightclub. Once inside the club, they go toe-to-toe with the club’s resident DJ—who just happens to be famed DJ DeadMau5 (who also collaborated with the Foo Fighters at the 2012 Grammys).
“By Crooked Steps” is not the first directing gig for Grohl. Grohl’s directorial debut comes from his documentary “Sound City”, about the famous Van Nuys studio where Nirvana recorded “Nevermind”. “Sound City” premiered at the 2013 Sundance Music Festival.
