Flying Lotus is helping legendary synth maker Moog Music draw attention to its new synthesizer, the Sub Phatty. The experimental producer received an advanced version of the device, with which he created a new track, “Such A Square.” Director Adam Fuchs, whom Flying Lotus has collaborated with in the past, directed an animated video for the single. Watch Flying Lotus’ music video for the new Moog Sub Phatty synth below.
The Sub Phatty has been the subject of attention since Moog announced the product among its lineup at the National Association of Music Merchants on Jan. 24. Herbert Deutsch, who co-created the first Moog synthesizer with Bob Moog in the early 1960s, was invited by the company to inspect an unfurnished version of the Sub Phatty.
“It’s exciting to see a new version of this instrument,” Deutsch says in the promotional video, rattling off the machine’s integral components. Like a kid with a toy, he’s quick to test out its boundaries.
Moog Music has yet to announce a release date for the Sub Phatty.
