It’s only the third week of the new year, and with those broken resolutions comes a contender for the Worst Album Art of 2013. In fact, it might be safe to say that the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, “Mosquito,” could take the title and win the whole shebang before January even ends.

The cover, designed by South Korean artist and filmmaker Beomsik Shimbe Shim, features a glowing purple mosquito holding a screaming baby captive — along with said baby’s radioactive green “YYYs” brand of food. The poor blond babe doesn’t even have the proper anatomy, with missing nipples. Plus that mosquito is simply terrifying.

The trio’s new tracks will drop April 16, the first album in four years for the group. Spin has reported their new song “Despair” as “a spare thumper that recalled Florence and the Machine’s ‘Dog Days Are Over,’ with Karen O singing about wasted days, nights, years, life.”

Maybe this creepy album cover is a hint that the trio is returning to its punk roots after the glam-dance music of “It’s Blitz!.” At least the egg exploding on the “It’s Blitz!” album cover was really cool.
