Crystal Castles adds one 2013 U.S. tour date in ColoradoBy Erik Myers | January 8th, 2013 | No Comments »
The Canadian act is currently on a world tour for its third album, aptly titled “(III).” The duo might be loved across the globe, but there’s an strong link between Colorado’s capitol and the Toronto-based pair.
For starters, Castles just performed at the Ogden last October check our photos above. Only a special breed of acts have the gusto to perform twice in a non-New York city within a year. But consider also that the Denver show is the only U.S. date confirmed for 2013 so far, and it’s taking place between festivals in Santiago and Paris. Think what you will, but there’s something special going on between these two.
“(III)” was generally well-received when released last year, despite some significant risks taken by vocalist Alice Glass and producer Ethan Kath. The powerful album art was the first hint that Glass was taking on political themes in her lyrics, which are reasonably interesting if you can make them out. “Infants in infantry rewrite their history,” goes the refrain in “Plague.” Noticeable too was the absence of an immediate single or obvious hooks. Kath seemed more focused on experimenting with pitch and structure which, to his credit, produced some of Crystal Castles’ more interesting numbers.
No word yet on who will appear with Crystal Castles, so check out the Gothic’s website for updates.
