Has Britney Spears succumbed to the title of “has-been” at the ripe age of 30?
Rolling Stone reports — citing an unnamed Us Weekly “insider” — the once ubiquitous pop star will be pushed out of her judging spot on the American version of the “X Factor” after just one season.
The “X Factor” finished its second season Dec. 20, naming country singer Tate Stevens the winner.
The source told the magazine: “Britney will get the boot. Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn’t working.”
Spears’ appearance on this season of the show was confirmed back in May. Us Weekly cites Spears’ $15 million contract as one reason, a sum some feel she hasn’t earned.
Simon Cowell is apparently leading the pack in the move to fire Spears, with another inside source saying, “He wanted crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney.”
With no official confirmation, or denial, from Spears yet, fans can only hope she’s headed back in the studio to record again.
