The classic act that enlisted a young J.Dilla to produce one of its most popular singles, “Runnin,” will make its way to the Fox Theatre in Boulder on Jan. 31. The Pharcyde, through its many lineup and label changes, has remained active in the hip-hop touring scene over the years. The Transcyde express tour is the latest live performance endeavor since the group gave up its affiliation with Delicious Vinyl Records and Bizarre Ride Live Tribute Shows.
The south central Los Angeles rap consortium took the West Coast backpack sound to a new level in the early ’90s with tracks like “Passin’ Me By,” and “Otha Fish.” The Pharcyde endured a pretty notorious break-up, with Fatlip and Slimkid3 leaving the group in the late ’90s. Imani and Bootie Brown are the two remaining members that carry the group’s boyish charm that hip-hop crowds can’t get enough of all these years later.
