Jenni Rivera and a crew of six died early Sunday morning in a plane crash in near Iturbide, Nuevo León shortly after taking off according to San Diego Red. Jenni Rivera was 43. The “Diva of Banda” was a pioneer for aspiring women vocalists wanting to enter the regional Mexican music market where men reign as king.

Rivera’s exploits outside of her professional career of selling more than 15 million records and selling out the Staples Center had nearly eclipsed her accolades ranging from a sextape to cash smuggling. Most recently, Jenni served as a judge on “La Voz Mexico,” the Mexican equivalent of NBC’s smash show, “the Voice.” The California native is survived by her five children and an army of adoring fans that will lament the loss of the controversial banda singer.
