In other news, Andrew W.K. will electrocute David Blaine during a keyboard soloBy Kelsey Fowler | October 5th, 2012 | No Comments »
Andrew W.K. has an upcoming electric keyboard solo — literally. Yes, W.K. plans to electrocute illusionist David Blaine on stage.
On Sunday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m., Blaine will perform “Electrified” in New York, submitting himself to various electric forms of torture. As the L.A. Times reports, the main showstopper — possibly heartstopper — will be W.K. taking a turn on a keyboard attached to a Tesla coil that, at a certain solo moment, will send 1 million volts of electricity through Blaine’s body. The event will stream live on YouTube, so its safe to assume he’s hoping no actual death is involved. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest known electric shock that a human survived was 340,000 volts.
W.K., lover of parties and ponies, seems amped about the opportunity. In a statement on his website, he wrote, “This is absolutely a once in a lifetime musical experience and probably the most dangerous musical instrument ever created! I’m absolutely electrified and terrified by the opportunity to play a keyboard solo with so much energy, and to use this incredibly powerful device to send a musical surge through David’s brain!”
