The 5th Annual Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park drew acts from all over the world, spanning many styles of music, and kept three days of capacity crowds warm in the chilly San Francisco summer fog.
Neil Young and Metallica didn’t disappoint in their headlining positions on Friday and Saturday nights, but the surprise hit on Sunday night was an energetic performance by Skrillex. Other hit performances throughout the festival came from Foo Fighters, the Kills, Jack White, Alabama Shakes, Die Antwoord and Bloc Party.
Though the needle in the haystack might have been one that many didn’t see because it was buried early in the Sunday lineup. Tom Morello, former Rage Against the Machine guitarist, delivered a rousing set of politically-fueled rock to the lucky few who managed to arrive in time to listen.
