The 2012 FMQB Triple A Radio Conference kicked off Wednesday night at the Fox Theatre in Boulder. The outside stage on the Hill featured Heartless Bastards and Dry the River. Inside the Fox Theatre, LP, Michael Kiwanuka and Trampled by Turtles kept the crowd dancing with their diverse musical styles.

I saw Trampled By Turtles at Rockygrass, and found them to very overrated.  Their “fast” songs are played the exact same way:  One-dimensional, and with limited musicianship.   They fared better with their slow material in general, but they were simply not of the level of all their hype, and to these ears was the weakest set at Rockygrass.  They may be fine for young kids, but to seasoned (i.e., older) music lovers like I, they are an immediate “pass” for me.  YMWV…at least the Alabama Shakes are living up to their acclaimed hype (thanks primarily to the talented and soulful Brittany Howard); and I’m also one who is not a pop/mainstream  kind of person.
