“Bridesmaids” at Red Rocks tonight: A chick flick we can all agree onBy John Hendrickson | July 10th, 2012 | No Comments »
“Bridesmaids” was the breakout comedy of 2011, easily answering one of the industry’s never-ending debates: Are women as funny as men? The (ridiculous) question is answered within the first several minutes of the film, in which writer/star Kristin Wiig has comically bad sex, then mimes a particular part of that comically bad sex to her best friend (Maya Rudolph).
The film grossed nearly $300 million worldwide and scored two Academy Award nominations — best supporting actress for Melissa McCarthy and best original screenplay for Wiig and Annie Mumolo. It’s a chick flick that’s more than safe for the bravado boyfriend; a comedy that’s equally edgy and heartwarming. Tickets for Tuesday’s Film on the Rocks screening at Red Rocks are $12-$50 at denverfilm.org, although general audience seats are currently sold out.
The Nix Bros. and producer Andy Juett will also be there repping Denver-bred T.J. Miller’s latest music video, “Denver,” so be sure to get there early to check it out. (If you miss, we’ll be exclusively premiering it on Reverb on Wednesday, July 11).
