Mumford & Sons to play Red Rocks in August

Update 6/29/12: A second show has been added for Aug. 29 with Dawes and Slow Club as support. First show is sold out, second is on sale now.

Mumford & Sons will enjoy a big tour of the U.S. this summer after all. After announcing select few dates across the country – including a Sept. 1 date at Jazz Aspen Snowmass’ Labor Day festival – the band has announced a full slate of summer dates in advance of its sophomore record, which is due in the fall.

Fans who have longed to see Marcus Mumford and his band headline Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison: Sigh no more.

Mumford & Sons will headline Red Rocks on Aug. 28, according to the band. The pre-sale for the show starts Thursday, and the public on-sale will be on Friday – though ticket prices have yet to be announced.

The timing of the Red Rocks concert and the Jazz Aspen appearance beg the question of additional Colorado shows. If the 28th sells out, which it surely will, will others be announced – on the 29th, the 30th or the 31st? Our guess is that Mumford will play at least two shows at Red Rocks, but that said, don’t sleep on your opportunity for tickets to the 28th show.

Here’s the rest of Mumford & Sons’ full summer tour itinerary. (Another guess: Multiple Denver fans will be attempting the 2-hour road trip to Laramie’s Gryphon Theatre to see the boys in a more intimate setting.)
