Chipotle festival brings Best Coast, Okkervil River to City Park in October

Longtime-munchie-satisfying burrito chain Chipotle announced its inaugural “Cultivate Food, Ideas & Music Festival” on Monday — with a notable nod to its Denver roots.

Indie bands Best Coast and Okkervil River will perform at Denver’s City Park, home to one of the country’s two free festivals, on Oct. 6. A similar event will take place in Chicago’s Lincoln Park on Sept. 15 with G. Love & Special Sauce and Allen Stone. (Clearly, we win the talent portion.)

The release states that the festivals will include cooking demos, celebrity chefs and promote sustainability.

Mark Crumpacker, chief marketing officer at Chipotle, told The Denver Post on Monday: “These events give our customers an opportunity to experience Chipotle in a new way and to learn something better about issues in food, develop a deeper appreciation for farmers and food artisans who are changing food culture for the better, and enjoy some great music.”

As for the tacos: Best Coast hails from Southern California, a mecca for fresh fish tacos — while Okkervil River comes from the land of Torchy’s, Guero’s and Juan in a Million in Austin, Texas.

In anticipation of this and other forthcoming taco parties, give a listen to SXSW Hotel Taco Party 2012 Playlist on Spotify. It got us through Sunday morning of South By a few months back; a time when even the healthiest of individuals battle shame and ruination in the crisp morning light.
