Furthur returns to Red Rocks for three nights in September

Further Furthur proof that Colorado rivals San Francisco as the Dead Head capital of the world: before 2012 comes to a close, original Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir will have played nearly 10 combined shows in the Centennial State this year.

Three of these gigs include a late September run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre under the banner of Furthur, the most recent and perhaps best Grateful Dead incarnation to arise during the past 20 years.

Furthur — featuring Lesh, Weir, Jeff Chimenti Joe Russo, John Kadlecik and vocalists Sunshine Becker and Jeff Pehrson — will headline Red Rocks Sept. 21-23, promoter AEG announced this morning.

The group played a similar run at Red Rocks in October 2011. Said Reverb writer Candace Horgan last year: “If you closed your eyes at Red Rocks Friday night … it was easy to feel transported back in time to vintage ’80s-era Grateful Dead shows.”

Tickets, $55-$60, go on sale 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster.
