Talk Talk: New Colorado radio stations springing up, NEEDTOBREATHE plays a secret show, DeVotchKa synchs with VW, more music newsBy Julio Enriquez | September 29th, 2011 | 1 Comment »
There might be reason to listen to the radio after all…
Things have been kind of boring on the radio for a while. Unless you shell out for satellite or strictly use your phone as your jukebox, I’m sure you can attest to the homogeny on the Denver radio airwaves. Political pundits spew venom no matter their affiliation, sports radio has beaten the Tim Tebow horse to a pulp and the music stations play the same songs every hour. We now have some new options. 1390 AM will now be known as Denver Open Air and their on-air date will be Halloween 2011. Expect to hear an eclectic mix from rock to blues to world music as chosen by program director, Mike Flanagan.
Filling the void of Indie 101.5 (RIP) is one that many music fans have been hoping would be filled one day. Post 303 Radio is looking to fill that void. It’s a joint operation between ex-Lipglosser, Tyler Jacobson, and John Wilbur. The two are trying to raise some capital to fulfill this venture and fans can help by going here. The soon-to-be station will have an emphasis with hyping local acts via the INTERWEBS.
DeVotchKa and Volkswagen will help you learn Español
The ad guys from Bud, Geico and Volkswagen will always get a chuckle out of you when you least expect it. VW’s newest spot has two bros going on a roadtrip learning Español to the tune of DeVotchKa. Nick Urata and Co. will be fulfilling their traditional Halloween shows in Denver and Boulder as they always do and you can get more information here.
Watch Mombi’s “The Misunderstanding” video
The new Manuel Aragon directed Mombi video plays like a hazy dream after a breakup. The video takes place in Little Raven and what appears to be the Highlands area of town that follows two cross-eyed lovers in the gorgeously lush captured sequences. NEEDTOBREATHE announces secret Denver show
Things are riding high for NEEDTOBREATHE right now. They’re opening up for Taylor Swift on her current tour and they just played Denver Tuesday night to a massive crowd at the Pepsi Center (read Reverb’s review here), but before they jet on out of town, they’ve decided to put together a last minute not so secret show at the Soiled Dove Underground in Lowry on September 29. You can purchase tickets here.
